The people
behind the plan.
Kael Osterman
Kael Osterman founded Ares Frontier in 2017 to answer a question most people considered a joke: what would it take to move a town to Mars?
He grew up in the oil country of West Texas, where his father's drilling crews taught him two things that still run his companies. The ground always holds more than anyone expects. And the people willing to go get it deserve a share of what they find.
In 2009 he founded Nexus with three trucks and a rented warehouse in Houston, and built it into North America's largest autonomous logistics network. In 2017 he turned the profits toward Mars. Under his leadership Ares Frontier built the Ares Titan, came through one of the hardest test campaigns in aerospace history, and in 2029 founded Elysium, the first human city on another planet.
Osterman is known for demanding deep integration across his companies. Ares Frontier and Nexus run on a single network with a single identity system, and he likes to say he can plug a laptop into a Nexus broom closet in Ohio and launch a rocket in Texas. Inside both companies he is equally known for wanting to be woken up for anything that matters, at any hour.
A man of faith, he speaks often to churches and faith communities about the frontier as a calling. He is the architect of the company's partnership with the federal Pardons for Passports initiative, which he describes as the most important thing Ares Frontier has done.
